Why Lagos is worth a trip πŸ‡΅πŸ‡Ή

I visited Lagos for the first time in August 2021 and accidently fell in love!!
Already in October 2021, I came back and stayed for the winter.

It doesn´t matter if you´re hyped for a roadtrip, Party trip, Backpacking Adventure, Beach Vibe, Solo Travels... you´re absolutely right in Lagos! So many young people are traveling here and many fall in love and never return. You will make new friends easily! πŸ‘πŸΌ

So just go and see what Lagos got for you!

Some general information ✈️

If you come by plane, you´ll fly to Faro Airport. Try to land before 5 pm because the easiest way to come to Lagos is by public bus. You can find the busses on omio.com. It´s 15€ per person (only cash, just buy at the bus driver) and takes 1,5 hours to Lagos.

The best travel time, in my opinion, is May or Septembre/October. During Juli and August Lagos gets really full! If you like the full summer vibe and meeting lots of new people, this might be your time. I prefered September/October. It´s still crowded and hot but not too extreme! ☀️

Where to stay 🏨

You can not really do anything wrong with the location of your accomondation because you can go everywhere by walk, no big distances. The city life and all the beaches are on the west side of Lagos. So I personally would not sleep at the east side, behind the harbour. And also note: Right in the center, it could get really loud because Lagos town is always alive and party somewhere! πŸŽ‰

We always rented Airbnbs but it is rather expansive during main season. If you´re renting a car anyways, you could also have a look at Airbnbs outside from Lagos. (For renting a car by the way, many people recommend LuzCar).

Really popular is "Iberlagos" (https://www.booking.com/hotel/pt/iberlagos.en.html?aid=7943163&no_rooms=1&group_adults=2)* at Dona Ana Beach (anything around Dona Ana in general is a nice area to stay!).

And if you´re the hostel type: "Top City Favourite" is a good choice! πŸ‘πŸΌ

Best Beaches 🏝

The best beaches? In one word: ALL

The Algarve´s beaches are really special, the cliffs, rocks, caves, ... 😍

When in Lagos, you can walk around all the beaches: Praia dos Estudantes, Praia do Pinhao, Praia Dona Ana (this one gets really full because it´s the most popular one), Praia do Camilho, ... Also beach of Porto de Mos. It´s not directly located in Lagos but just around 30 minutes to walk and also beautiful!
Some beaches are connected with trails on the rocks. So you can have a walk with a view on top of the cliffs.

My ultimate sunset or sunrise spot is Ponta de Piedade. It´s stunning!! πŸŒ…
Here also starts a nice hike: Start at Ponta de Piedade, walk to Porto de Mos and then continue to Luz! (No hiking experiences needed, I have none either).

Summarized, the landscape of Algarve is really special!
So if you´re having a car, definetely check out other spots at the Algarve (and west coast beaches!!).

Activities πŸ„πŸΌ‍♀️

Surf Lessons

If you´re a surfer, Algarve is your area! You can rent boards and suits at Jah Shaka Surf Shop.

And if you´re no surfer (yet) but would like to try: it´s so fun!! I am still no pro haha but joined two group lessons. I booked it in Jah Shaka Store, They pick you up at the store in the morning, you get some basic knowledge and then: try, try, try, ....! πŸ„πŸΌ‍♀️
I payed 50€ per day for surfing class (inclusive pick-up service and board) and 5€ on top per day for the suit!

Kayak Tour 🚣🏼‍♀️

Kayaking is a nice way to explore the caves inside the rocks. The coast is so nice from sea view so don´t miss it! Plus kayaking is really ocean eco friendly 🌱

For booking your tour, just go to Praia dos Estudantes. There are two companies offering their tours. Usually, they cost 35€. But if you ask for a special price, they sometimes offer 30€ πŸ˜‰

Yoga & Holistic massages 🧘🏼‍♀️

My place to go for treat my body, mind and soul: InLight.
I´ve had many amazing massages here! The staff is so lovely! πŸ’†πŸΌ‍♀️
I never attended a yoga class but only heard good stuff about it!
You can find more information here: https://inlight.pt/

Vegan Foodie Spots 🌱☕️πŸ₯‘

1. Abigail´s
This cute cafΓ© is my personal number one! You find a lot of vegan options here.
Personally, I prefer the avocado toast with some oat milk iced latte, a fresh portuguese orange juice and the best vegan brownie in town! πŸ˜‹
For digital nomads: Inside is also a nice work area :)

2. Coffee Studio
If you´re searching for vegan cakes, you will definteley get happy here. They usually have a lot vegan cake options. And my insider tipp: The Chai Latte is the best!!! ☕️
For all my solo travellers who work digital: just grab your laptop, get a chai latte and sit down at a group table. You can work here and meet new people easily!

3. Pom Pom Bagels
My favourite snack to go: Bagels from Pom Pom! They offer many vegan sweet and salty varieties and cost around 5€. Enjoy your bagel during your city walk or take it with you to the beach.
My personal favourite: The vegan salmon bagel mmmhhh! 🍩

So, these are my ultimate Lagos Tips! When I arrived for the first time, my uber driver says to me: ,,Oh girl, you will fall in love. Many people do. They never leave Lagos." - and I feel it!
